UndisclosedDescriptionPosition SummaryThis position is responsible for performing internal audits, facilitating external audits, analyzing data, providing necessary training to personnel, and reporting audit results to organizational leaders.
The Internal Auditor is responsible for educating providers and staff on coding rules as well as local and non-local policies and procedures to ensure compliancy.
Internal Auditor Essential FunctionsPerforms internal chart audits for Associated Eye Care, AEC Ambulatory Surgery Center, AEC Optical and Valley Surgery Center; provides training for personnel based on results, and reports outcome and recommendations to managementParticipates in external chart review process for Associated Eye Care, AEC Ambulatory Surgery Center, AEC Optical, and Valley Surgery Center; gathers necessary chart information, provides training for personnel based on results, and reports outcome and recommendations to managementWorks collaboratively with operations and surgical personnel on changes in practice that could have an impact on billing, coding, or reimbursement, i.

, new equipment, devices, surgeries, or studiesProcess charges, payments, and adjustmentsClaim submission and follow upManage patient accounts and inquiriesProvides coding training and ongoing review for incoming residentsStays current with CPT and ICD-10 changes and educates personnel accordinglyStays updated on EPM and EHR processesStay current on all insurance policies and procedures that affect the company and inform others of such changes in a proactive mannerStays current on insurance verification systems and processesContinuing education:
maintains certification(s), attends necessary training, seminars, or webinarsOther Essential Functions Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time Create an exceptional patient experienceCommunicate effectively with supervisor, manager, and/or directorParticipates in department and company meetings, as requestedWork as a team with other departmentsPerforms other duties as assignedQualificationsEducation & LicensingHigh School Diploma, or equivalent, required Coding Certification Required (one of the below, or similar)CPCCCSCCS-PRHITRHIAExperienceExperience in healthcare industry with medical terminology, medical billing and coding, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS preferredAuditing experience preferredOphthalmology and multi-specialty facility billing experience preferredNextGen experience preferredProficient in Word and Excel and a willingness to learn new software programs Skills & Knowledge RequiredKnowledge of chart review/auditing training, CPT and ICD-10 coding, health insurance, medical billing procedures in a clinical and surgical settingAbility to work independently with minimal directionCritical thinking and problem solvingExcellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to develop and foster relationships with providers, employees, and clients at all levels of the organization.
